Dreams are one of the most common yet surreal experiences of life. Dreams are an unwinding of our unconscious thoughts. They help us understand our fears, inspirations and what lays hidden in our subconscious mind.
It is believed almost everyone dreams every night, but many are not remembered upon waking.
The cycle of sleeping happens in 4 stages.
Stage 1: Your eyes are closed, but it’s easy to wake up. This phase may last for 5 to 10 minutes.
Stage 2: You are in light sleep. Your heart rate slows and your body temperature drops.
Stages 3: The deep sleep stage. During this stage, the body repairs and regrows tissues builds bone and muscle and strengthens the immune system.
Stage 4: REM or rapid eye movement happens 90 minutes after you fall asleep. This is when you can have intense dreams because your brain is much more active in this phase.
Many people practice lucid dreaming as a way to dive into the infinite universe of mental thought. This is the process of becoming consciously aware that you are dreaming, and turning your dream into a world of your own creation. If you can focus yourself enough, you can merge your consciousness with the astral dimension.
This is a reality very similar to ours but is based on thought – not physical. Many believe that in a lucid dream, you can interact with other people’s consciousness, actually travel the world in real-time and explore the vast universe.
Lucid Dreaming was popularized in the modern world by Robert Monroe, who had an accidental personal experience with Lucid Dreaming, after which he devoted his life to exploring and understanding.
He founded the Monroe Institute and achieved a system of inducing out of body experiences with binaural-beats, which he called the Hemi-Sync system, designed to synchronize the two hemispheres of the brain using sound waves. Today, people claim to experience Lucid Dreaming and Astral Travel all over the world, even though Scientifically, it is not very well understood.
With practice, devotion, and patience, you too can experience a Lucid Dream!
