Perhaps check it after the first hour of your workday, after lunch, and then an hour before you go home. When you get these things straight, it becomes easier for you to discipline yourself.

For emails that you seriously need to work on, put them in your to-do list. A simple reply may not be enough, so go ahead and make it a separate task you can do later.
Live in the moment. When you become more mindful of what you do, it can be easier to get things done when you need to.
