Here's How To Make Your Mind More Flexible

What's the first thing that comes to mind when you hear the term "flexibility?" Many will immediately think of yoga poses or rubber bands. Others might consider pilates positions or taffy. But very few will actually think about flexibility in terms of thoughts.

But what if flexible thinking is what you need to achieve good health? What if it's that flexibility in the mind that will help you achieve overall wellness in the body and well-being. With careful practice, you can develop that agile mind. You will be able to elevate your experience.

Through mental flexibility, you will be able to teach yourself to become more resilient and creative. In the process, you will be able to achieve a happy heart and an even happier life.

The cognitive flexibility theory talks about how you can bend your thinking to give way to new perspectives. It is grounded in the goal that you are aspiring for balance in your life. Between control and spontaneity, you will surely go for control.

And yet, it's the same theory that will teach you that your brain needs to be flexible at times. It is the only way to open up yourself to learning.

How Will Mental Agility Shape Your Life?

Working to improve your mental agility will enable you to become more fruitful. It will effectively help you pursue your individual passion as much as it will fuel your desire to help others.

An active mind puts you in a better position to analyze and find solutions to problems.

You will be able to help more people by helping them get to the root cause of the problem and deal with it rationally.

An agile mind also helps you foster creativity and work on things in pursuit of innovation.

With a flexible mind, you are able to identify promising opportunities. It provides you with an endless opportunity for self-growth.

When you follow rigid thinking, while you can make quick decisions, you can sometimes be too focused on keeping you in your comfort zone. On the other hand, adaptable thinking makes it easier to pick one position and make sense out of it. Sometimes, it helps when you have that careful eye for detail. When you're highly specific about things, you will be able to see how that is going to change the way you think.

A flexible mind helps you move away from the limitations you tend to put on yourself. You begin to be in a place of openness and possibilities. So whenever you are feeling stuck, you need to open your mind and your heart. With a little push and a whole lot of self-confidence, you will be able to boost your resilience and finally get your chance at success.

How Do You Develop An Agile Mind?

While some people may have that innate ability to pull themselves up towards being mentally agile, others need a bit of encouragement. With a little bit of awareness and practice, you can become good at it.

The following brain exercises can get you started.

Change your perspective

When you need to understand what is before you, go ahead and take a step back. This is not about abandoning what you started. Rather, it is about taking a break so you can perfectly see what needs to be improved.

Stand up and take a deep breath. Changing the context of the situation may require you to make a change in how you see things. Working on a project for a long time, you may develop a close mind.

So take that walk around the block or go on a coffee break. Put yourself in a different context and environment. A simple mind shift may offer you another approach on how to deal with the situation.

Did you know that exercise helps give you a mental boost too? Move around more today and experience the difference for yourself.

Try something new

One of the best ways to give yourself the right amount of mental exercise is to try something new. Maybe you can take up dance classes and finally learn to move your body to the music. Or perhaps you could learn a new language you can use for your next trip abroad.

While you might find this rather odd considering your age, no one is ever too old to learn something new. Mental flexibility is the ability you give yourself to create something new out of the past. It is about seeing things from a different light.

Mental flexibility introduces you to something novel. Not only does it contribute to brain growth, but it helps in overall development through time.

Don't be afraid to ask

Sometimes, people find themselves in an uncomfortable situation. Instead of asking what is causing it, they feel all too embarrassed even to admit that it was something new for them. They decide to deal with it the best way they know how to, and that's it.

However, being aware of what is different from what used to be should help you open your mind to new thinking. It allows new ideas to flow. The dispute in your thoughts might be unwanted, but they help you grow in thinking. Substitute them with more productive ideas, and soon your actions will lead to better phases too.

Be spontaneous

Spice up your routine and allow yourself to be spontaneous from time to time. If you are used to taking your walks in the evening after work, try to wake up early tomorrow and do your regular walking before leaving for work. It might just give you a new perspective on how things can be.

If you are used to taking this route to work because that's where you usually buy coffee, go and try another route. You'll be surprised at the many things you discover just by tweaking your routine a bit.
