Happiness, they say, should always come from within. So if you are looking for ways to turn negative into positive, you must seek the answers from within yourself.
If you were asked what would make you happy, what's the first thing that comes to mind? Perhaps you have thought of your kids' milestones and how those moments make you happy. Or maybe it is the simple gesture of getting flowers for your birthday.
But then again, all these actions and things may make you happy only for a moment. That's when you thought that happiness will always be ever fleeting.
When you are all alone, and everything is quiet, ask yourself what truly makes you happy. Whether you admit to it or not, it is something that you cannot describe, but you can feel it. It is a sense of inner peace and quiet.
So whenever it feels like you need to take the good with the bad, remind yourself that you need to live in the moment. Allow yourself to feel every moment in your life.
It takes both practice and patience to master the art of living in the moment. Over this lifetime, you will be able to accumulate experiences and memories that can either hold you back from truly achieving genuine happiness or push you forward with so many expectations of the myriad of possibilities before you.
Being aware that most of your thoughts hold memories of the past is the first step to gaining freedom from negativity. When you are always anxiously waiting for the future to unfold, you won't be able to clear away the illusions that may cloud your judgment.
It is not surprising to think that the reason you'll achieve happiness lies outside of who you are. You always expect people to do things for you. You believe that if they do this or say that, you will be genuinely happy.
However, the reality is that the more you expect things from people, the more likely are you brewing a recipe for disappointment. You will inevitably hurt yourself or find yourself feeling frustrated over what others are doing or not doing.
Clear away those expectations and cultivate a more meaningful mindset of yourself and your relationship with other people. That's when you will truly be able to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
How do you teach yourself to deal with both positive and negative emotions? Here are some tips to help you create a more positive experience at any time.
You don't have to spend a lot of time meditating. If the idea of it is all new to you, start by giving yourself a good ten minutes of quiet time. If you think meditating in the morning is not practical for your schedule, you can do it at any given time during the day.
You can try the five-minute meditation program, or you can go for a walk while meditating. Make it a date with yourself that you shouldn't miss. Before you know it, you will realize how much more mental clarity you have. Soon, all those minutes you spent meditating will pay off.
You will experience relatively less stress with plenty of energy that will fuel you for another hectic workweek.
Do you often find yourself rushing from one appointment to another? If this is part of your day to day work, make sure to find the time in between transit to stop and breathe. Try to calm yourself with mindful breathing exercises. These are deep breaths that will allow you to clear your mind and keep you from getting anxious about the meeting.
Some deep breathing will help you focus on what you need to accomplish. This is something that's easy to do, and you can do it anytime, anywhere.
When was the last time you actively used all five senses? For example, did you stop to revel in the smell of your coffee this morning? Or did you notice the colorful new backdrop on your computer screen?
Tapping into your five senses will help you find the focus to bring you back to the present. The goal is for you to take notice of what is happening in front of you. No judgments, simply move on.
In this day and age, when everything seems too complicated, allow yourself to go back to what is simple. How do you make that shift from the idea of grandeur to living simply?
It all begins when you choose to look at the minute details of your everyday life. When you pay more attention to the simple things, you will be able to create a more positive mindset.
What is it about today that made you smile? What did you enjoy doing the most? To free your mind from all the clutter, figure out what it is that you like to do. Create a stress-free life by distancing yourself from the activities that make you overthink unnecessarily.
Being kind to others is a part of being a good person. But being kind to yourself puts humanity back in you. When you begin to live in the moment, you become more aware of your limitations as a person.
Beating yourself up when you fail will not help you grow, nor will it help improve your mood. So treat yourself like how you want to treat others. Show compassion, be kind, express your support, and, most especially, love yourself. When you do all these, good things will come to you.
Teaching yourself how to release negative energy is the first step to getting the right kind of help. You don't need to go very far to help you ease the stress. In truth, all you need is to remind yourself every day that you are worth it.
